Resort to WHITE BIOTECHNOLOGY for the production of chemicals and polymers is showing great promise from the technological but also economical point of view.

Utilization of fermentation processes for the production of chemicals from bio-based resources is more and more reported in the R&D labs but also on the industrial level. Besides resort to fermentation, more and more chemical companies are also looking at the benefits of biotransformations using isolated enzymes whether for the production of commodities or fine chemicals.

At NATISS, major efforts are devoted (through our own R&D efforts or for the benefit of our corporate clients) to the study of fermentation for the production of poly(hydroxyalkanoates) (PHA) as well as to the utilization of biocatalysis as a substitute to classical organic chemistry.
